I always look for NY-style pizza when visiting a new area & could eat it for breakfast, lunch & dinner. For context, I’m from NY & NJ; this hunt takes priority for me over finding any other type of food. I chose the 20” pepperoni pizza & would order it again. Opening the box revealed an absolutely magnificent looking pie. Very large, evenly-sized slices, thin enough to fold with a crisp edge to hold, texture of crust just right (not spongy or thick), decent tomato sauce (not too sweet) applied in the right proportion, pepperoni equally distributed over all slices, some tasty pepperoni grease atop a nice layer of slightly bubbled cheese. We enjoyed it the next day too. It’s nice to see some longevity in the fridge when you want prolonged savoring of a good find. This pizza kind of makes me want to move into the apartments next door, so I could walk over here frequently.

Like many people around here I'm from up north and love finding NY style/thin crust pizzas. This is ny 1st time having this particular Sal's and I wish I had done it sooner. This is amazing and definitely a new favorite spot and close to home.
Update: I am giving Sal’s NY Pie 5 stars now because they took my comment about the sauce and changed it to a yummy thick marinara sauce!! These gentlemen aim to please! Free garlic knots with a $20 purchase too! My husband’s favorite along with the fried mushrooms. Previous review: Many restaurants have come and gone in this little corner and Sal’s NY Pie is the latest to open here. This one is a keeper. We enjoyed wings and zucchini fries, salad and a beautiful calzone. We have gone back three times for calzones. They even opened for us after fireworks July 4th so we could get calzones to go. The crew is very kind and grateful to have customers. They just need a good marinara sauce for the calzones. The sauce they serve tastes like chunky spaghetti sauce. Not easy to dip the calzone in. There are several negative comments about how this restaurant opened. It would be unusually expedient for anyone to be able to get a rental agreement and permits in the short amount of time since the unfortunate kitchen fire (at Sal’s on Pleasurehouse). Maybe they were already planning to open this restaurant. There are many Sal’s in Hampton Roads just like there are many Jade Garden Chinese restaurants. All different owners. Similar menues, not a problem unless the menue was copyright protected. We could find a similar menu at a dozen other restaurants not named Sal’s. Plenty of customers to go around. When AJ reopens Sal’s on Pleasure House, we will eat there too! He has the best marinara sauce! But please don’t drive this business to the ground with gossip. Everyone needs a chance to work. Give them a try!
Fabulous pizza and cheesecake! After we gorged ourselves on the fresh hot pizza we finished off the cheesecake- some of the best I've ever tasted!! About an hour later, we were wishing we had taken another slice of cheesecake home. We ordered an 18 inch pizza so we had leftovers of that. The pizza was cooked to perfection with a crispy crust and with the correct amount of sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. It was easily the best pepperoni pizza I've had anywhere. This place should make the list of "must eat here" in Norfolk!
Sals are the absolute best!! It is the closest to New York Pizza you can get !! Yes, I'm from Brooklyn Calzones are amazing I always get the spinach & mushrooms It is large enough to share, but I have to admit I don't I ordered their cheesecake with cherry topping, and it's also delicious so creamy & fresh !! Have to give a shout out to their delicious made to order zeppoles !!! Brings back memories of the Italian feast in New York Delivery is efficient Drivers are very polite ! I ordered from Pleasure House Road as I'm new to this area . But I have had the same quality of food & service at Sals on South Plaza trail & Shore Drive
Just when I thought I had a fav pizza place's here in Virginia Beach, well this new local place just blew my Jersey girl pizza heart out of the water yesterday!!! It truly tastes like home and I can't wait to try the rest of their menu which looks amazing and is also very similar to NJ/NY pizzeria menus! They even have cannolis....do I say more?!?!?
